The Bang Khun Thian Viewpoint down in the Gulf of Thailand, not far just south from Bangkok, is a way to reach the sea with less than hour drive from Sukhumvit. It’s not a beach and not practical to swim, but the nature is very unique. From this area, you used to hop on a boat to reach a remote restaurant out in the middle of nowhere, but sadly, it’s closed now. The place is a protected mangrove area – real countryside vibes, with sea water basins. Renting bikes is the way to go; you can then drive on bicycle lanes, to pontoons over the water. Mangroves are planted and making a comeback, reclaiming land from the sea bit by bit. It’s a cool spot.
