Sometimes you just need a quick weekend escape from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, and Sriracha, located just under two hours away by car, offers the perfect retreat. Last weekend, we packed up the car and headed southeast for a relaxing stay at Oakwood Hotel & Residence Sri Racha.
The hotel is modern and comfortable, and what really sets it apart is its stunning swimming pool located on a high floor, offering breathtaking views of the ocean. We spent a good part of the afternoon unwinding by the pool, watching the sun reflect off the water, a perfect way to kick off the weekend. Oakwood also has an onsen, which makes sense given the number of Japanese business travelers that the area attracts—Sriracha is a hub for industrial activity and has a large expat community.
For dinner, we went to Mum Aroi, probably the most famous seafood restaurant in the area. The atmosphere was lively, and the seafood was fresh and delicious. It’s a spacious, waterfront spot, perfect for enjoying a variety of Thai seafood dishes while soaking in the sea breeze.
Overlooking the sea in Sriracha, right across from Samitivej Sriracha hospital, is a spacious Thai seafood restaurant, part of an old family chain found in Pattaya and Bangkok. The menu is vast, featuring a variety of Thai seafood dishes. Notable items include succulent steamed blue crab, a crowd-pleaser with its tender meat and rich flavor. The restaurant offers a relaxed beachfront atmosphere, the service is professional and fast, as it’s crowded at any time. A good spot to enjoy Thai seafood in a classy but popular setting.
The next morning, after a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, we visited the Space Inspirium museum. Melody loved it, especially the Mars walking simulation and getting in an astronaut suit. It was a great way to spend a few hours, learning about space technology and geographic information in a fun and engaging way. The museum is packed with activities and is perfect for families.
Space Inspirium is a small but interesting museum if you have kids, located in Sriracha, Chonburi. It’s Thailand’s first space technology and geographic information learning center. This interactive museum offers visitors a journey through the universe, combining science, imagination, and cutting-edge technology. It’s mostly aimed at children, to teach them the origins of the universe, experience the sensation of walking on Mars, learn about satellite positioning, and even train like an astronaut.
Some playful activities keep the kids interested, such as a Mars Walking Simulation, a Gyroscope Astronaut Training, and a hands-on Robot Classroom where kids can build and program their own robots. The center also features real-life satellite models and showcases the future of space exploration and geographic technology. Everything is in Thai language only.
On our way back to Bangkok, we stopped at a lovely seaview restaurant for lunch. The food was as good as the view, offering the perfect end to a relaxing weekend getaway. It’s weekends like these that remind you how easy it is to recharge and enjoy new experiences without venturing too far from home.
A delightful dining spot in Bang Phra, on the way back to Bangkok from Sriracha, blending the charm of Thai-Colonial architecture with sea view with a cafe-style ambiance. Though often referred to as a cafe, its menu and atmosphere make it more of a Thai restaurant, offering a diverse selection of dishes alongside coffee, tea, and cakes. The food is great but real highlight, however, is the stunning cliff and sky views. With its glass balcony extending outward, it’s a popular spot for capturing panoramic photos.
