One of the unexpected advantages of being a resident in Thailand during the Covid pandemic was the chance to visit typically crowded destinations that were nearly empty. Another benefit, though it didn’t seem like one at first, was the 15-day quarantine requirement after returning from France. We had the option to quarantine in a closed hotel in Bangkok or in Phuket, where the rules were more relaxed, allowing us to explore the island freely. Naturally, we chose Phuket, where some hotels offered quarantine packages at significantly reduced prices.
Being fans of the Centara brand, we opted for the Centara Grand in Karon. Despite visiting during the rainy season on the Andaman coast, we experienced only a few showers. We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a spacious corner room with a huge balcony, which was perfect since we had to work during our stay. Our daughter also enjoyed spending time at the kid’s club, giving us a few hours of peace each day.
A luxury beachfront resort on Karon Beach, offering stunning views of the Andaman Sea and surrounded by lush hills. It features Mediterranean-inspired design with spacious rooms, some including private pools or jacuzzis. It’s family-friendly with water park style pools, a spa of course. Dining options include Thai and international cuisine, with the Coast Beach Club & Bistro on the beach where breakfast happens. It’s an ideal spot for relaxation, beach activities, and watersports in a tropical setting.
Patong and all the nightlife was quiet, we were there during the few weeks when there really was nothing open, Bangla road was dead.
There was a bit more activity on Bang Tao as more people live there all year round, such as Catch Beach Club and the Lazy Coconut.
